Week 22: Another Old Barn

I took these pictures back in February while I was trying to get pictures of Bald Eagles.  Needless to say, the barn pictures turned out better than the Eagle ones.

 



 

 

When I edit pictures I will try editing in black-and-white to see if it looks better than the original.  With this picture, I couldn't decide which I liked better.  Though, I am leaning more toward the black-and-white version!

Which is your favorite?  Do you tend to like black-and-white or color better?

Week 21: A Vintage Barn

This is a picture of my Grandpa's barn where he grew up.  I love how the vintage edit turned out!

 

 

 

Seeing pictures like this makes you wonder what stories took place here.  Who the people were that used this barn throughout the years, and what their life was like.  I think old pictures are neat, though this is not an old picture, it is an old barn.

The editing of these barn pictures is going slowly.  I have been using the nice days to work in the garden, and the rainy days to edit pictures.  Yep, today is a rainy day.  Although, I would like to do a photo shoot in the rain sometime.  I haven't been able to convince anyone to model for me! :)  Oh well.

Off to edit some more pictures!

Week 16: A Black and White Barn

Some more barn pictures!!  My Aunt asked me to take some pictures of the old barn that her Dad grew up with, so of course I said yes!  I was originally planning on getting some pictures of the barn in Winter with snow and some in Summer.  But, I never got any with snow on the ground.  It will have to wait till next Winter I guess.  Unless we get snow tonight, as it is in the forecast!  This Spring doesn't seem too eager to warm-up, that's for sure.

 

I have been playing around in Photoshop and came up with this edit.  I think the grey banner goes well with the black and white coloring of the photo.

Originally, I wasn't going to keep this photo as it had a weird bluish tint to it (my fault in not getting the settings correct).  After some editing, I was able to save it!  I liked how it turned out.

What about you?  Do you ever edit a photo that you originally didn't like, and then end up liking it afterward?

Week 9: A Red Barn

Last year I was asked to take some pictures of a friends barn for a birthday gift.  I happily accepted the job as I had been wanting to get some pictures of this barn for awhile and had never taken the time.  Having permission meant that I could get different angles too, not just what you see from the road.

This isn't just any old barn, in fact, it doesn't look old at all.  This is a red barn with white trim around the windows and door.  The day I chose to first shoot it the sun was already towards the west.  This meant that the north and east side were pretty dark (at least for my photography skills) so I mainly shot the south and west side that day.  The sky was a brilliant blue with a few white clouds here and there.  This made for some great photos with the red barn as the center of attention. 

The second day was pretty much the same, just earlier in the day with a few more clouds.  That's where this picture came from.  Since it was earlier, the east side was more lit up so I could get some better pictures of it.

I used an 18-55mm lens to capture a wider view.  I wanted to be sure and include some of that sky!
I like this picture because the white rail on the fence seems to be leading the viewer up to the red barn, the focal point.  This is something I don't always consider when taking photos, though I do when I remember!

  I really enjoyed taking these pictures.  I ended up with way too many to choose from!  I would like to get out more and take more photos of farm life.  You would think this would be easy since I live on a farm! :)

A trip to my Aunt's, part 1

Earlier last week we took a trip to my Aunt's house. These are all pictures from then, except the first one was from our timber.
With this first image it was getting dark and I slowed the shutter speed a bit and focused, then pushed the shutter down and zoomed at the same time, creating the "zoomed" effect.
This creek bed was at the end of my Aunt's property. It was covered with rock and moss, plus the fallen limbs add to it!

This is a seed pod off of the tree in their front yard.

This is also at the creek, I love the roots of the tree among the rocks.

Also at the creek, as you will see alot of these are! A bunch of different shaped and sized rocks, also different shades.

This was one of the few green plants at the creek, I thought it looked nice against the browner leaves and twigs.

One of my favorites, the rock bed in the creek covered in moss.

Another of the creek. The rocks, the fallen limbs, the brush on the edges, and the pine tree to the right all play into this one.

Another favorite of the creek! I liked the white limb hanging down and the creek going back into the picture.

The barn was a favorite too! I have too many favorites. I liked the way the barn looked with the tree limbs hanging down in front of it.

These weeds in front of the barn were really bright and colorful, they went with the dull color of the barn good.

If you will notice there is a buzzard resting on the peak of the barn, I was able to get a few shots of him before he flew away.
